As I get ready to wrap up my 32 years of teaching at Sandpoint High School, one thing I will be giving up will be the Honor Flight Club here at our school. I want you to know that it has been a great honor for me and my students to raise money for such a worthwhile cause. Also, for Emma and I to actually go on a trip to Washington D.C. was something in my teaching career that I will always cherish.
The main objective of this club was to stay out of the way and project a good image for INWHF. Hopefully we were able to accomplish that. Although, we were also able to raise some money; I believe a bigger benefit was the interaction between the students and veterans and the viewing of the Honor Flight Movie to our student body. This left a lasting impression with many students.
It has been my honor to be the advisor for this club for the last four years.
Thank you,
John Nitcy
A note from Madie Slaton-Sanford
I graduated from Sandpoint High School two years ago; however, I have kept in contact with Mr. Nitcy and continued to update the webpage when necessary. I am very disappointed the club is coming to an end. It was something I held very close to my heart.
I will never forget the experiences in this club and I hope that we touched lives along the way. Thank you to all of those who have helped, whether they be our parents, the community, or teachers- you all made this club possible.
My hopes are that one day, the club will be reestablished and more kids will have the opportunity that I did- to help those who served or are currently serving our country so selflessly.
